Hong Kong has just made one of the most significant fertility rule changes in the region. Here is what your people are navigating, and where a benefit makes the difference.
What employees face
- From 1 December 2025, the statutory storage limits for eggs, sperm and embryos stored for a person’s own use were removed. People can now decide how long to store them, based on their health and circumstances.
- Anyone who has stored for five years or more must receive additional counselling on the medical risks and the risks of pregnancy at an older age before extending storage.
- Longer storage makes egg freezing a more realistic long-term option, which raises demand for clear, unbiased guidance on cost, timing and clinics.
What employers need to know
- Health information is personal data under Hong Kong’s Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance, so any programme must keep individual data away from the employer.
- Fertility treatment and menopause both affect attendance and focus. Flexible arrangements and trained managers reduce the cost to the business.
Where Zora helps
- Guidance on egg freezing, IVF and storage decisions, with access to partner clinics.
- Menopause education and specialist access for employees, and training for managers.
